offside eventually they won a free kick just outside the goal area,
Mathew Cousins took the kick and the ball flew into the net to make it
2-0. From the restart Merstham won the ball back and Brown ran with ball
and shot from 30 yards which went through the goal keepers legs to make
it 3-0. Ewell then attacked down the left, Merstham only had one player
back against three advancing players from Ewell, the winger fired the
ball in low and it was slotted home to make it 3-1 at half time. Into the second half and Merstham kicked off playing down the hill, they made six passes from kick off to Cousins who then chipped the goal keeper for Merstham’s fourth. Within another three minutes Merstham was 5-1 up with a rebound from keeper found Dale Edge who slid the ball in. Ewell were still trying hard and were awarded a free kick just outside the box, it was crossed in to make it 5-2. Ewell hardly got out of their half in the second half as Merstham relentlessly pushed forward hitting just wide on a few occasions looking for a tenth goal but the game finished 9-2 Merstham should finish 4th in the league this year

great result. Team: Smith, Coventry, Deacon, Hungerford, Brown,

November 2010 Merstham 5 v 1 Holland Sports E&EL U16s League Cup |
|
Merstham only had nine players so were up against it
with Holland Sports having fourteen players. The game got off to a flying start with Holland
taking centre but both teams were going forward and having shots.
Merstham were awarded a corner kick in the 17th minute Jose Silva
crossed the ball in and was heading straight into goal but a Holland
defender handled it on the line to stop the goal and a penalty was
awarded with the offending player being sent off. Silva stepped up and
score from the spot to put Merstham one up. Within two minutes it was
2-0 with Paul Strong crossing the ball to Mathew Cousins who headed the
ball home. The rest of the half was played in Holland half as Holland
had ten players and Merstham had nine. Then Perlesha came down the left
and crossed the ball in for Strong to head in his second goal. Half time
came and Merstham had a 3-0 lead. Merstham started the second half well but were under
pressure from Holland who were making the extra man count. Giles Lloyd
in goal was making save after save and finally Merstham broke away with
a ball over the top which Strong got onto and slotted home to make it
4-0. Holland was going all out and got a goal back with ten minutes to
go. Holland were going again with a ball over the top again but and
Strong got on to it and slotted Merstham fifth goal and to get his
hat-trick. Merstham held on and won the game 5-1. Well done lads a fine
display with only nine players. |
