WHAT A
GREAT START TO THE SEASON |
|
Merstham were away to Horley Town FC, who we have
lost to home & away for the last three seasons. With a new
management team of Richard Iles and Mickey Baker and also five new team
members, Horley must have thought all their prayers had come at once,
well what a shock they had! The first 15 minutes of the game was
very close, and then Merstham stepped up a gear and dominated the rest
of the first half, while Horley had to thank their Goalkeeper for some
great saves. As the second half started Merstham and Horley where
level again on performance, the Merstham defence were working like a
well oiled machine. Their midfield worked tirelessly and dominated
the last 20 minutes with our two newly placed strikers giving Horley’s
Goalkeeper a time to remember. With only ten minutes to go John
Lawton was brought down in the penalty area by the Keeper, the ref put
the whistle to his mouth but didn’t blow. With two minutes left of the
game a lovely ball was played through to Anthony Waller who finished it
with ease only to be called offside. This was a game that all the
boys should be proud of. Squad: Gareth Johnson (GK),
Elio Porto, Michael Baker, Daniel Hall, Aaron Hawkins, Anthony Waller,
Hadley Iles, Liam Marsden, Evan Hewes, John Lawton, Connor Skipper Merstham Man of the Match: Gareth Johnson |
