Epsom & Ewell League U17s League Cup Semi Final
Sunday 4th March 2012
Merstham 2 v 1 Redhill Town

The game got started with Merstham kicking up hill both teams tried to attack Merstham were keeping to their half with Redhill coming close at times. Then Redhill finally broke through Merstham’s defence just before the break giving them the advantage at half time.

Merstham started the second half very strongly but again Redhill broke though their defence and were awarded a penalty Merstham’s goalkeeper made a great save to keep his side in the game. Merstham kept pressing for a equaliser and was not long before they got want they deserved to make it 1-1, Willow Prowse was on hand to tap in from a mistake by the Redhill goalkeeper. Despite the goal Merstham were not happy and started to push harder but with no joy.  But it was Redhill who broke that though with the Merstham keeper being called on to make a great save.  With a few minutes to go the Moatsiders goalkeeper kicked the ball upfield to an eager Charlie Scoble who passed neatly to Mathew Cousins who in turn found Dale Edge who curled the ball past the Redhill keeper to make it 2-1 to Merstham with just a minute to go. Merstham held on to book their place in the final.

Sunday 19th February 2012
Merstham 1 v 0 Oxshott Royals

The game got off to a flying start, with Merstham taking centre, then with Oxshott winning the ball back and attacking with fast pace. Merstham could not get the ball out of their own half for the first ten minutes of the game with the Merstham goalkeeper Grant Joy making some great saves, Merstham then got hold of the ball and started passing it around. Mathew Cousins found a way past the Royals keeper but a defender managed to head it off the line. The game was played in the Merstham half for most of the first half with Joy having to make some more great saves to keep Merstham in the game.

Oxshott started in centre in the second half but Merstham soon started to get into their game by playing better football and attacking hard but with no luck. Oxshott were also having their fair share of chances. Merstham then came close with a Cousins free kick which was saved on the line. Then with most of the game being played in the midfield the ball came to the feet of Willow Prowse who shot but failed to find the net. The ball then was at the feet of Dale Edge who then slid the ball through the Oxshott keeper to make it 1-0 in injury time to Merstham. And that’s how the game finished leaving Merstham still top and six points clear.

Epsom & Ewell League U17s League Cup Quarter Final
Sunday 11th December 2011
Merstham 4 v 0 NPL Youth

On Sunday 29th January 2012 Merstham came up against NPL in a League Cup match which kicked off at 1pm.

The game started off at an extremely quick pace and within the first minute NPL had given away a penalty which Merstham were determined to take full advantage of and they did just that, with number 8 Mathew Cousins who went up to take the penalty and scored it in the bottom left hand corner. It then went back to being an extremely fast- paced start to the game and in the fourth minute of the first half, on his debut for the Merstham side, Willow Prowse scored a brilliant goal helping Merstham to take the lead with a 2-0 score line. The rest of the first half was fairly even with the possession with both teams having a couple of chances at either end of the pitch but neither side managing to finish the shots into the back of the net. Merstham kept their team strong with the back four all supporting the players upfront and keeping a united front making sure they were there to help out the midfielders and the strikers with a few good crosses which resulted in some shots on target. NPL had a good shot from a free kick but it was cleared by Merstham’s Thomas Powell. After this clearance it was finally half time.

Merstham made two changes at half time taking off Shaban Perlesha and Adnan Abbas and putting in their place Giles Lloyd and Casey Jumu. The second half had both teams fighting to add more goals to the score line but neither team seemed to succeed. Thomas Powell helped Merstham to keep their shape in the middle of the play and Mathew Cousins had a good shot at goal but NPL's keeper got to it before it could hit the back of the net. NPL had one last push towards the end of the game which resulted in Merstham’s captain Calnnech McCrann clearing it off of the line. Merstham made one more substitution within the second half which saw goal scoring Willow Prowse come off and Alex Partridge to be put on. The game ended with a 2 - 0 score line resulting in Merstham going through to the next stage of the league cup.

Sunday 11th December 2011
Merstham 4 v 0 NPL Youth

Both teams got off to a cracking start, NPL in particular attacking hard and almost breaking the Merstham defence. However it wasn’t long before Merstham answered NPL’s attack by Charlie Scoble scoring their first after a corner to give Merstham the lead. Both teams again were pretty evenly matched for around the next 15 minutes or so but this wasn’t to be the case for much longer. Omar Bah managed to bang in what he thought was his first for Merstham after an immense free kick from Mathew Cousins but unfortunately it was disallowed due to him being offside. Not long after that Ross Knight stepped up to the mark and scored a blinding goal after going one on one with the keeper to give Merstham their second. Once again NPL came back strong and had a few chances to even the score but unfortunately for them they weren’t able to find the back of the net. The score at half time Merstham 2 NPL 0.

As the second half got under way both teams were fighting for possession and there was shots on target from both sides none of which managed to beat either keeper. The ball was held up in a lot of midfield play and again both teams coming close but not quite being able to make a difference. However Cousins took full advantage of NPL’s poor defence and managed to find his way round four of NPL’s players and claim and made it three for Merstham. The final goal of the day was to follow shortly after from Dale Edge who took his shot but was deflected by the keeper but fortunately for Dale he managed to beat the keeper off of the rebound to make it four for Merstham. For the remaining time left on the clock both teams’ defences managed to hold up and not concede until the final whistle, leaving Merstham with a clean sheet. Final score Merstham 4 NPL 0 allowing Merstham to reclaim the top spot.
