The game got off to a flying start, with Merstham
taking centre, then with Oxshott winning the ball back and attacking
with fast pace. Merstham could not get the ball out of their own half
for the first ten minutes of the game with the Merstham goalkeeper Grant
Joy making some great saves, Merstham then got hold of the ball and
started passing it around. Mathew Cousins found a way past the Royals
keeper but a defender managed to head it off the line. The game was
played in the Merstham half for most of the first half with Joy having
to make some more great saves to keep Merstham in the game. Oxshott started in centre in the second half but Merstham soon started to get into their game by playing better football and attacking hard but with no luck. Oxshott were also having their fair share of chances. Merstham then came close with a Cousins free kick which was saved on the line. Then with most of the game being played in the midfield the ball came to the feet of Willow Prowse who shot but failed to find the net. The ball then was at the feet of Dale Edge who then slid the ball through the Oxshott keeper to make it 1-0 in injury time to Merstham. And that’s how the game finished leaving Merstham still top and six points clear. League Cup Quarter Final |

On Sunday 29th January 2012 Merstham came up
against NPL in a League Cup match which kicked off at 1pm.

Epsom & Ewell League U17s Premier Division |
| Both teams got off to a
cracking start, NPL in particular attacking hard and almost breaking the
Merstham defence. However it wasn’t long before Merstham answered NPL’s
attack by Charlie Scoble scoring their first after a corner to give
Merstham the lead. Both teams again were pretty evenly matched for
around the next 15 minutes or so but this wasn’t to be the case for much
longer. Omar Bah managed to bang in what he thought was his first for
Merstham after an immense free kick from Mathew Cousins but
unfortunately it was disallowed due to him being offside. Not long after
that Ross Knight stepped up to the mark and scored a blinding goal after
going one on one with the keeper to give Merstham their second. Once
again NPL came back strong and had a few chances to even the score but
unfortunately for them they weren’t able to find the back of the net.
The score at half time Merstham 2 NPL 0. As the second half got under way both teams were fighting for possession and there was shots on target from both sides none of which managed to beat either keeper. The ball was held up in a lot of midfield play and again both teams coming close but not quite being able to make a difference. However Cousins took full advantage of NPL’s poor defence and managed to find his way round four of NPL’s players and claim and made it three for Merstham. The final goal of the day was to follow shortly after from Dale Edge who took his shot but was deflected by the keeper but fortunately for Dale he managed to beat the keeper off of the rebound to make it four for Merstham. For the remaining time left on the clock both teams’ defences managed to hold up and not concede until the final whistle, leaving Merstham with a clean sheet. Final score Merstham 4 NPL 0 allowing Merstham to reclaim the top spot. Team: Joy, Nash, McCann, Bah, Deacon, Powell, Perlesha, Partridge, Scoble, Cousins, Knight Report by Lewis Burford |
